The AutoColor script combines BackgroundNeutralization and ColorCalibration in one step and can often produce results that are better than using BackgroundNeutralization and ColorCalibration at their default settings.

Before you use the script, you have to install it and I discuss that next.

Installing The AutoColor Script

The AutoColor script is by PixInsight community member Hartmut Bornemann, who also created the GAME and several other scripts.

If you installed the GAME script then you already have the AutoColor script installed.

You can install the scripts by pointing your browser to this address:

Using AutoColor

AutoColor is completely automatic. You just have to ensure that you have at least one color image open on your PixInsight desktop, make the image you want to operate on the active image, and then from the menu select Script – Utilities – AutoColor

The script might take a couple of minutes to run as it evaluates your image by taking measurements from it and performs a number of calculations. Once complete, your color calibrated image will be left on your desktop.

If you inspect the history of your image, you’ll find that AutoColor applied both BackgroundNeutralization and ColorCalibration to your image; you can inspect the settings the script used by double-clicking the word BackgroundNeutralization or ColorCalibration in the history explorer.
