This is the sun as it appeared on May 14 with two sunspots on the surface, AR 2822 (the upper sunspot) and AR 2823 (the lower one):
These sunspots each produced a weak CME that was forecasted to reach earth between May 18 and 19; however, the CME was so weak that a geomagnetic storm did not occur.
Sunspot AR2822 was tracked from the other side of the sun before it appeared on the earth-facing side; it took about a week to cross the sun.
