This is the sun as it appeared on February 9, 2022, as viewed using the MicroObservatory:

Several active regions are visible in this image:

  • AR 2941 in the upper part, above center
  • AR 2940 at approximately the 2 o’clock position
  • AR 2939 at approximately the 4 o’clock position

AR 2941 is an archipelago of sunspots – here’s a closeup view from spaceweatherlive.com:

This sunspot has positive and negative polarity, as shown in the following image (red is positive, blue is negative polarity):

The image from the MicroObservatory demonstrates that you can get a very good image of the sun using the free MicroObservatory telescopes.
