offers its members eight telescopes to use to image the sky. Among the telescopes is the Solar telescope located in the Canary Islands.

This image was taken on February 6, 2019 using the Solar Telescope. The image shows the surface of the Sun – one of two views members can get from the Solar telescope.

Until I had access to a solar telescope, I had no idea I was so interested in the Sun! I try to get an image of the Sun at least once per day to see what’s happening on it. Even though we’re currently in a solar minimum, the Sun is surprisingly active! In this image, you can see flares that are facing the earth near the center and four o’clock positions.

I discuss using the Solar telescope and the other telescopes offers in my book, Remote Astrophotography Using – A Handbook, available exclusively at!
